Our client asked us to reclaim a large area of their garden which had become very overgrown. We had to incorporate established trees with preservation orders, an existing tree house and a tennis court. Working with these elements we transformed the site into a naturalistic, but manageable, woodland garden. Under the trees we used shade loving plants and even made a feature of an old woody stump which we softened with ferns and hydrangeas.
The informal design is complemented by a geometric paved area with a contemporary stone seat. Log walls provide a habitat for insects and form an integral part of purpose-designed composting bins. We visually blended the garden into the woods beyond by masking the boundary fence with laurel hedging.
