The process starts with visits and conversations. We talk to our clients so that we can understand what they want out of their garden and what is going to work for them. We assess a site (when the weather is bad as well as when it is good) and make a photographic record from multiple viewpoints, inside and outside. We analyse the conditions, note the local building materials and explore the surrounding environment. The designs we create are individual responses to individual requirements.
From big picture to small picture...
We initially present a 'broad brush' proposal, often in sketch format with accompanying reference photographs, for discussion. In this way we avoid spending time working up ideas that may not be appropriate. But it also means that our clients can contribute to the process. As our designs progress we move to the specific. We care deeply about getting the details right – from construction, materials and planting to ornamentation, containers and furniture. A garden is a complex three dimensional combination of elements that will change and develop, not just with the seasons but for years to come. Our task is to combine design flair with knowledge and experience to create meticulously considered, beautiful gardens that will stand the test of time.
